Our Lifespan Religious Education Department welcomes
you to another thought-provoking semester of classes
and activities for adults. Our Adult Religious Education
line up for winter/spring 2001 offers a variety of programs
designed to enhance our sense of community and to enrich
our spiritual and intellectual lives, We ask that you sign
up for all programs that interest you in order to facilitate
planning. We want to make sure there is enough space, child
care and so on to accommodate everyone.

STUDY CIRCLES
A series of discussion/action groups that motivate individuals
to examine and transform personal values and habits, to accept
responsibility for the Earth, and to act on that commitment.
The Circles are organized on a specific topic such as Voluntary
Simplicity, Choices for Sustainable Living, Your Money or Your Life
and other subjects. Terrific study guides are available which
consists of seven or eight sessions of self directed interactive
ecological investigation. Facilitating is equally shared among the
group members. Those who participate in each Circle agree upon the
time and place of Circle meetings. Limited to 8-10 people per Circle.
Fee: about $15 for book.

THE BRIDGE CALLED RESPECT:
Exploring Relationships Between Men and Women
What can we learn about the other gender through open dialogue? What can
we learn about our own gender by listening to others? This class is about
the wide variety of relationships between the genders. There is daily
homework during this program. You will be required to choose an ally of the
opposite gender (the ally need not be a member of the class), and you will
need to be in conversation with your ally almost daily (and often in person)
for 31 days beginning February 1. These encounters will take from 5 to 30
minutes per day. This class is open to both individuals and couples; you must
sign up in advance. Led by Rev. Jeff Jones. Meets 7 consecutive Sunday
evenings. Free.

READING AND REFLECTION GROUP
A terrific opportunity for people to come together in a meaningful, focused way.
Reading and then reflecting on a good book can teach us a lot about realities
beyond our own experience, while offering participants the opportunity to share
their own significant stories. Each session covers a different book and each
meeting stands alone: come to all or come to only one. Just come! Potluck supper
precedes each gathering. Descriptions of featured selections are in the sign up
book and on the Lifespan bulletin board. Led by Nancy Gilmore. Group discounts

as a community. We will embark on a journey of discovery and growth by sharing
our own life journeys, thoughts, experiences, doubts, and beliefs, while giving
our undivided attention to each individual as they share. Trusting yourself to
speak your truth to a group affirms your ability to speak your truth wherever you
go; leaming to listen well empowers you and all the people in your life. The

MAKING THE MAGIC DRUM
Learn the ancient art of drum making, and walk away with your own frame drum
to beat! Drums are made in one day and are ready to play the next. All you
need to bring are your strong hands and a dish to share for lunch. Offered

GREAT BOOKS
This reading and discussion group uses the books and programs of the Great Books
Foundation. Through "shared inquiry" we explore the writings of the major literary
and philosophical figures. Most of the selections are less than 15 pages. For each
meeting we have a leader and a set of questions that provide structure and keep the
discussion flowing and on track. Led by Tim Travis. Free.

Pagan Awareness Network
The Pagan Awareness Network of Fredericksburg is a fellowship for pagans of any
path who live in our area. We host a secular pagan discussion group (see times
and contact information below)and welcoming pagans new and old, as well as
anyone sincerely interested in learning more about paganism. We discuss topics
such as paganism in the news, what current events impact our lives as pagans,
ethics, traditions, pagan parenting, internet sites and more.
The group is a place to meet others of like mind for fellowship, and make contacts
with those that might follow the Rede, the Law of Return, or any compatible system
of ethics. We invite you to attend and share your views.

BEST OF GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2000
This spring we will offer an evening discussion group centered on a series of
video and audio tapes from the most recent Unitarian Universalist Association
General Assembly. A variety of topics related to Unitarian Universalist themes

Childcare can be arranged for most Adult R.E. classes at no additional cost
to the participant. Please make arrangements with the contact person at least
two weeks in advance if this service will be needed.
Some classes have a minimum or a maximum enrollment number. Occasionally a
class may be overfilled and offered again at a later date. Conversely, a
class may be cancelled if enrollment is not sufficient.
