There is always something going on, or ongoing at the Fellowship.
The Events on this page are the one time, or once a year, that
everyone looks forward to. UUs love to get together (we have a
committee whose sole purpose is planning get-togethers) and will
do so at the drop of a hat.
Millard Fillmore Birthday Bash!!!
Saturday, January 19th, 6 PM
Join us as we celebrate the birthday of our 13th president, and famous
Unitarian, Millard Fillmore, born January 7th 1800. What better way to
honor this great statesman than with a potluck dinner and game night!?
Bring a dish to share, and we'll start with dinner at 6:00 PM. Friendship
will provide the drinks, set-ups and, of course, the birthday cake. Then
we'll enjoy an evening of board games, cards, charades, or whatever strikes
our mood. Bring a favorite game if you'd like. All ages are welcome.
Okay, we know what you're thinking, you think this is just a lame excuse
for a party. Well, duh! And yet, why not see it instead as an opportunity
to learn about this unsung Unitarian? Millard, a Whig, became president in
1850 upon the death of Zachary Taylor. He was president for two years, during
which time he displayed a stunning lack of leadership, and failed to win his
party's nomination in the election of 1852. In 1856 he accepted the nomination
of the Know-Nothing party and was soundly defeated. So, here's a man in dire
need of a little celebration!
And, who knows, if this goes over big, maybe next year we'll add another equally
famous Unitarian, William Taft, to our list of honorees.
